Cost

$395 annual fee; no foreign transaction fees

Potential value

75,000 bonus miles after $4,000 in purchases, plus a $300 Capital One Travel credit and 10,000 anniversary miles every year

Best for

people who want one simple 2X card, will book some travel through Capital One Travel, and often fly solo

TL;DR

  • The Capital One Venture X Rewards card costs $395 a year and earns 2 miles per $1 on every purchase, with more on travel booked through Capital One Travel.
  • Welcome offer (checked October 24, 2026): 75,000 bonus miles after $4,000 in purchases within the first 3 months.
  • Every year: a $300 Capital One Travel credit and 10,000 anniversary miles, which Capital One says equal $100 toward travel. If you use both, they cover most of the fee on their own.
  • Lounges: the primary cardholder gets Capital One Lounges and Landings plus Priority Pass lounges (after enrolling). Guests are no longer free for most cardholders: free Capital One Lounge guests now require $75,000 in yearly spending, and authorized users pay $125 a year each for lounge access.
  • Transfer partners: 15+ airline and hotel programs, most at 1:1, including Air Canada Aeroplan, Flying Blue, Turkish, Avianca LifeMiles, and Singapore KrisFlyer. No Hyatt, United, or Southwest.
  • Skip it if you won’t book anything through Capital One Travel, you mostly travel with a partner who expects free lounge entry, or you spend heavily in dining and grocery categories where other cards earn more.

Every card fact below was checked October 24, 2026 on Capital One’s Venture X page, its card comparison page and footnotes, the Capital One Travel airport lounge access policy guide, and Capital One’s transfer partner guide. If we could not confirm a detail on one of those official pages that day, we left it out or say so.

The welcome offer

Capital One’s terms say eligible primary account holders “earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening.” That works out to about $1,334 a month.

Two rules matter before you apply:

  • The 48-month rule. You are not eligible for the bonus if you received a new cardmember bonus for the Venture X in the past 48 months.
  • Apply from the offer page. Capital One says the bonus “is available by applying through this page, and may not be available if you navigate away from or close this page.” Take a screenshot of the offer before you submit.

At 1 cent per mile (Capital One’s own travel value, explained below), 75,000 miles is worth $750 toward travel. Transfer to the right airline partner and it can be worth more. If you need help hitting the spend without buying things you don’t need, see our guide to the best credit card welcome bonuses, which we keep updated.

How you earn miles

The Venture X keeps earning simple:

  • 2X on every purchase, with no categories to track and no cap.
  • 10X on hotels and rental cars and 5X on flights and vacation rentals when you book through Capital One Travel.
  • 5X on Capital One Entertainment ticket purchases (Capital One’s footnote excludes cardholder pre-sales and tickets bought directly through Capital One Hall or Capital One Arena).

What 2X means in practice. If you put $30,000 a year on the card outside of travel, you earn 60,000 miles. A card with 3X or 4X categories can beat that on dining or groceries, but many people find the flat rate easier, and it is hard to beat on spending that fits no bonus category, like insurance, medical bills, utilities, and home repairs.

Miles don’t expire for the life of the account, and there are no blackout dates on Capital One Travel bookings, according to the card page.

Can the credits really cancel out the fee?

This is the main question for any $395 card. Here is the math using only what Capital One publishes:

Amount
Annual fee-$395
$300 Capital One Travel credit (if you use it)+$300
10,000 anniversary miles (Capital One: equal to $100 toward travel)+$100
Net, before any lounge visits or 2X earning+$5

The catch is the word “if.” A few details from Capital One’s terms:

  • The $300 credit only works on Capital One Travel purchases. It “will expire on the next account open date anniversary,” so it resets on your card anniversary, not January 1.
  • You can use it on one purchase or spread it over several.
  • You don’t earn miles on the part of a purchase paid with the credit.
  • If you cancel a booking, the credit comes back only if it hasn’t expired.
  • The anniversary miles arrive after each anniversary, starting with your first, so you see them only if you keep the card past year one.

If you already book at least one hotel, rental car, or flight a year and Capital One Travel shows a fair price for it, the credit is close to cash. If you always book directly with airlines or hotels for status reasons, value the credit lower. Capital One Travel prices can differ from booking direct, so compare before you book.

Lounge access in 2026: what changed

Lounge access is the Venture X’s headline perk, and it is also where the card got less generous. Here is the current policy from Capital One’s lounge access guide, checked October 24, 2026.

Capital One Lounges and Landings

  • Primary cardholder: free entry.
  • Guests: primary cardholders who spend at least $75,000 on purchases across their Venture X account in a calendar year can bring up to 2 free guests to Capital One Lounges and 1 free guest to Capital One Landings per visit. Capital One says that perk covers the year you hit $75,000, the following calendar year, and through January 31 of the year after that.
  • Below $75,000: guests pay a discounted $45 per visit (18 and older) or $25 (17 and under). Children under 2 are free. The standard non-cardholder price is $90.

Priority Pass lounges

  • Primary cardholder: free entry to participating Priority Pass lounges after you enroll through the Capital One app or website.
  • Guests: $35 per guest per visit. The $75,000 spending perk does not apply to Priority Pass lounges.
  • Not included: Priority Pass restaurants, bars, spas, and other non-lounge “experiences.”

Authorized users

  • Adding an authorized user does not include lounge access. The primary cardholder can buy it for $125 per additional cardholder per year, which covers Capital One Lounges, Landings, and Priority Pass lounges. It renews automatically unless you cancel it.

What this means: a solo traveler loses nothing. A couple that flies together a few times a year now pays either $45 per visit at a Capital One Lounge, $35 per visit at a Priority Pass lounge, or $125 a year to make the second traveler an authorized user with their own access. Add that to your math before you call the card “free.”

Other benefits worth knowing

  • Premier Collection and Lifestyle Collection hotels booked through Capital One Travel come with an experience credit (up to $100 at Premier Collection hotels, up to $50 at Lifestyle Collection hotels), plus extras like daily breakfast for two at Premier Collection hotels and, when available, upgrades and early check-in or late checkout.
  • Hertz status upgrade: eligible cardholders can enroll in a Hertz Gold Plus Rewards status upgrade through the card’s benefits page.
  • Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit: a statement credit for one application fee every four years when you pay with the card. Capital One’s page lists the exact amount; check it there, since the figure shown in different parts of the page did not match when we looked.
  • Cell phone protection up to $800 when you pay your monthly phone bill with the card.
  • Visa Infinite protections: Capital One points to the Visa Infinite Guide to Benefits for travel and purchase coverage. Read that guide if insurance is a deciding factor; we only list what Capital One’s card page spells out.
  • No foreign transaction fees.

Using your miles

Transfer partners

Per Capital One’s transfer partner guide, checked October 24, 2026:

RatioPartners
1:1Aeromexico Rewards, Air Canada Aeroplan, Avianca LifeMiles, British Airways Club, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Etihad Guest, Finnair Plus, Flying Blue, Qantas Frequent Flyer, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, TAP Miles&Go, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Virgin Red, Choice Privileges, Wyndham Rewards
2:1.5 (1,000 miles to 750)Emirates Skywards, EVA Air, Japan Airlines Mileage Bank
5:3 (1,000 miles to 600)JetBlue
1:2 (1,000 miles to 2,000)I Prefer Hotel Rewards
2:1 (1,000 miles to 500)Accor Live Limitless

Transfers need at least 1,000 miles, the name on both accounts must match, and you cannot move miles back once a transfer is final.

The strongest partners for most U.S. travelers are the ones that open up international business class and short partner awards: Aeroplan (Star Alliance, including United flights), Flying Blue (Air France and KLM, with monthly Promo Rewards), Turkish Miles&Smiles, Avianca LifeMiles, and British Airways Club. To compare these programs side by side with Chase, Amex, Citi, and Bilt, use our credit card transfer partners chart, and to judge whether a redemption is a good deal, plug it into our points value calculator.

The gaps: no World of Hyatt, no United MileagePlus, no Southwest, and no Marriott. If those are your programs, a Chase card is the better fit.

Capital One Travel and “erase” travel purchases

You can also book travel through Capital One Travel with miles, or cover recent travel purchases on your statement. Capital One describes 10,000 miles as equal to $100 toward travel, so these options give you about 1 cent per mile. That is the floor value. Use it when a transfer doesn’t beat it, such as for a cheap domestic flight or a rental car.

Capital One also lets you use miles for gift cards, Amazon and PayPal checkout, or cash back. Those options usually give less than travel, so we don’t recommend them unless you need the cash.

Venture X vs the cards people compare it to

Venture X vs Chase Sapphire Preferred. The Sapphire Preferred has a $95 fee, earns 3X on dining and some other categories, and transfers to Hyatt, United, and Southwest. The Venture X earns more on everything else and includes lounges. We break it down category by category in Chase Sapphire Preferred vs Capital One Venture X, and the full single-card take is in our Chase Sapphire Preferred review.

Venture X vs Capital One Venture. The regular Venture card is $95 a year, also earns 2X on every purchase, and on October 24, 2026 Capital One’s comparison page showed it with 75,000 bonus miles after $4,000 in the first 3 months plus a one-time $300 Capital One Travel Stays credit for hotels and vacation rentals. It has no annual travel credit, no anniversary miles, and no complimentary lounge access. Note the eligibility rule: Capital One says you can’t get the Venture bonus if you received a new cardmember bonus on the Venture or the Venture X in the past 48 months, so pick carefully. If you won’t use lounges and don’t want to manage a yearly travel credit, the Venture is the simpler pick.

Business owners: the Venture X Business is a separate card with its own offer. See our post on the Venture X Business offer for the current numbers.

Who should get the Venture X

It’s a good fit if you:

  • Want one card for nearly everything, without tracking categories.
  • Will spend at least $300 a year on travel you can book through Capital One Travel.
  • Fly solo often, or are fine paying $35 to $45 per guest visit.
  • Want access to partners like Turkish, Avianca, Qatar, or Cathay Pacific that Chase doesn’t offer.

Skip it or pick something else if you:

  • Always book direct with airlines and hotels and would never touch the $300 credit.
  • Travel mostly as a couple and want free lounge entry for both of you without paying $125.
  • Spend most of your money on dining and groceries, where a category card earns more.
  • Mainly redeem with Hyatt, United, or Southwest.

Checklist before you apply

  1. Confirm you haven’t received a Venture X welcome bonus in the past 48 months.
  2. Make sure you can spend $4,000 in 3 months on things you’d buy anyway.
  3. Open the offer page, screenshot it, and apply from that page without navigating away.
  4. Plan your first Capital One Travel booking so the $300 credit doesn’t expire unused.
  5. Enroll in Priority Pass through Capital One after approval.
  6. Decide whether a travel partner needs the $125 authorized-user lounge access.
  7. Pay the full statement balance every month. At 19.74% to 28.74% APR, interest wipes out the rewards fast.

FAQ

Is the Capital One Venture X worth it in 2026?

For people who use the $300 Capital One Travel credit, the $395 fee is mostly covered by that credit plus the 10,000 anniversary miles. Lounge access and 2X earning are then the profit. If you won’t use the credit, the math is much weaker.

What is the Venture X welcome bonus right now?

On October 24, 2026, Capital One’s page showed 75,000 bonus miles after $4,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. Offers change, so check the page before you apply.

Can I still bring guests into Capital One Lounges for free?

Only if your Venture X account spends at least $75,000 on purchases in a calendar year. Otherwise guests pay $45 per visit (18 and older) or $25 (17 and under), and children under 2 are free.

Do authorized users get lounge access?

Not by default. The primary cardholder can add lounge access for $125 per additional cardholder per year.

Do Venture X miles transfer to Hyatt or United?

No. Neither World of Hyatt nor United MileagePlus is a Capital One transfer partner. You can reach United flights indirectly by booking Star Alliance awards through Air Canada Aeroplan.

How much is a Venture X mile worth?

Capital One values 10,000 miles at $100 toward travel, so 1 cent each through Capital One Travel or when covering travel purchases. Transfers to airline partners can be worth more, depending on the award.

Bottom line

Bottom Line

The Venture X is still one of the simplest premium cards: 2X on everything, a $300 travel credit, and 10,000 anniversary miles that together nearly cancel the $395 fee if you use them. It got worse for couples, since lounge guests now cost money unless you spend $75,000 a year. Get it if you’ll use Capital One Travel and often fly solo. Skip it if you’d never book through the portal or need Hyatt, United, or Southwest as transfer partners.
