Potential value
60,000 ThankYou Points after $4,000 in the first 3 months (Citi lists $600 toward gift cards or travel at thankyou.com), plus a $100 annual hotel benefit that can cover the fee
Best for
travelers who want transferable ThankYou Points, especially to American Airlines, and who spend on dining, groceries, and gas
TL;DR
- The Citi Strata Premier costs $95 a year and earns ThankYou Points that transfer to airline and hotel partners.
- Welcome offer (checked November 6, 2026): 60,000 ThankYou Points after $4,000 in purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. Citi’s marketing language values that at $600 in gift cards or travel at thankyou.com.
- Everyday earn rates: 3x on air travel and other hotel purchases, restaurants, supermarkets, and gas and EV charging; 10x on hotels, car rentals, and attractions booked on cititravel.com; 1x everywhere else.
- The $100 Annual Hotel Benefit (once per calendar year on a qualifying Citi Travel hotel stay of $500 or more before taxes and fees) can erase the annual fee if you would book that stay anyway.
- Get it if you want Citi’s mid-tier transferable points card, care about American Airlines transfers, and will use the hotel benefit. Skip it if you are deep in Chase or Capital One, will never book through Citi Travel, or already had a Citi Premier or Strata Premier recently.
Every card fact below was checked November 6, 2026 on Citi’s Strata Premier product page, the Strata family comparison page, Citi’s published Strata Premier terms PDF, and ThankYou’s points transfer partner listing. Transfer ratios for Strata Premier match what we recorded on our credit card transfer partners chart from ThankYou pages (premium-tier ratios). If we could not confirm a number on an official Citi or ThankYou page that day, we left it out or say so.

The welcome offer: 60,000 ThankYou Points
Citi’s current public welcome offer is 60,000 ThankYou Points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That is about $1,334 a month of normal spending. Never buy things you do not need just to hit a bonus.
Citi’s marketing language says those 60,000 points are redeemable for $600 in gift cards or travel rewards at thankyou.com (1 cent each at that redemption). Transfer to the right airline partner and the value can be higher. Our points valuations table is a planning estimate, not a Citi figure.
Eligibility (from Citi’s product page): the new-account bonus is not available if you currently have or previously had a Citi Strata Premier or a Citi Premier account. Citi also says you may not be eligible based on your history of opening, closing, and using credit cards. Offers can vary by channel, and Citi notes the offer may not be available if you leave the offer page.
Citi’s terms PDF says bonus points may take one to two additional billing cycles to post after they post for regular purchase points.

How you earn ThankYou Points
Per Citi’s product page and the Strata Premier terms PDF (November 6, 2026):
| Category | Points per $1 |
|---|---|
| Hotels, car rentals, and attractions booked on cititravel.com (or by calling Citi Travel) | 10x |
| Air travel and other hotel purchases (not through Citi Travel) | 3x |
| Restaurants | 3x |
| Supermarkets | 3x |
| Gas and EV charging stations | 3x |
| All other purchases | 1x |
A few rules from Citi’s terms matter in practice:
- Only purchases earn points. Balance transfers, cash advances, fees, returned items, and several cash-like transactions do not earn ThankYou Points.
- Merchant codes decide the category. Citi does not control how a store is coded. A restaurant inside a hotel or grocery store may not get 3x if it is coded as something else. Online grocery and meal-kit services often miss the supermarket bonus for the same reason.
- The hotel benefit portion does not earn. If you use the $100 Annual Hotel Benefit on a Citi Travel booking, Citi says you will not earn points on the portion of the purchase offset by the benefit.
- Points from purchases generally appear at the end of the billing cycle; purchases near cycle end can take another cycle.
Illustrative example only. Say someone spends $4,000 on dining, $3,000 at the supermarket, $2,000 on gas, $3,000 on flights booked direct, and $8,000 on everything else. That is 12,000 + 9,000 + 6,000 + 9,000 + 8,000 = 44,000 points a year before the welcome bonus, or about $440 at a flat 1-cent gift-card value. Your numbers will differ.
The 10x rate only applies when you book hotels, cars, or attractions through Citi Travel. Flights booked on cititravel.com earn the 3x air travel rate, not 10x, per Citi’s category wording.
The $95 fee and the $100 hotel benefit
The annual fee is $95. The easiest way to cover it is the $100 Annual Hotel Benefit:
- Once per calendar year, take $100 off a single hotel stay of $500 or more (excluding taxes and fees).
- Book through cititravel.com or by calling 1-833-737-1288.
- The discount is applied at booking.
- You must prepay the full stay with the Strata Premier card, ThankYou Points, or a mix.
- Packaged rates (air + hotel, hotel + car) do not qualify.
- If you cancel that booking through Citi Travel, the benefit stays available for the same calendar year.
If you would book a $500+ hotel stay through Citi Travel anyway, the benefit more than covers the fee and the card is effectively free for that year. If you refuse to use Citi Travel for hotels, treat the fee as a real $95 cost and judge the card on earn rates and transfers alone.
Citi also lists The Reserve hotel collection on cititravel.com (breakfast for two, Wi-Fi, a property experience credit, and possible upgrades when available). Those perks only matter if you book a participating Reserve property at the Reserve rate.
Other product-page perks: no foreign transaction fees, free FICO Score access, Mastercard ID Theft Protection enrollment, Citi Entertainment, and travel protections such as trip delay, trip cancellation/interruption (common carrier), lost or damaged luggage, and MasterRental coverage. Full terms are in Citi’s Guide to Benefits; we are not reprinting coverage limits here.
ThankYou transfer partners (Premier tier)
This is the main reason to choose Strata Premier over a no-fee Citi card. Citi’s product page says you can transfer ThankYou Points to American Airlines, JetBlue, Virgin Atlantic, Cathay, EVA Air, Choice Hotels, The Leading Hotels of the World, and others, with a minimum transfer of 1,000 points.
ThankYou’s public partner listing on November 6, 2026 named these programs (among others Citi markets on the card page):
Airlines / loyalty: American Airlines AAdvantage, Air France-KLM Flying Blue, Avianca LifeMiles, Cathay Pacific, Copa ConnectMiles, Emirates Skywards, Etihad Guest, EVA Air, Japan Airlines Mileage Bank, JetBlue TrueBlue, Qantas Frequent Flyer, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Thai Royal Orchid Plus, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles.
Hotels: Accor Live Limitless (ALL), Choice Privileges (Citi’s card page also highlights Leading Hotels of the World).
Premium-tier ratios (Strata Premier / Strata Elite / Prestige), from our transfer chart’s ThankYou check: most airlines at 1:1, with Emirates at 5:4 (1,000 ThankYou Points become 800 Skywards miles). Hotel ratios in that chart: Accor 2:1, Choice 1:1.5, Preferred Hotels 1:2, Leading Hotels 5:1, Wyndham 1:1. Always confirm the ratio inside your ThankYou account before you move points. Citi’s no-annual-fee ThankYou cards use lower ratios; Strata Premier is in the full-value group.
Why American Airlines matters. Among major U.S. bank currencies, Citi is the one that transfers directly to AAdvantage at 1:1 for Strata Premier. That alone can decide the card if you fly American or its partners. See our credit card transfer partners chart for the full side-by-side.
Watch Out
Transfers are one-way. Find the award first, confirm seats, then transfer only what you need in 1,000-point increments.
You can also redeem through Citi Travel, shop with points at participating merchants, or take gift cards and cash-back style redemptions at thankyou.com. Portal and gift-card redemptions are usually closer to 1 cent per point; transfers are where the upside lives.
Who the Citi Strata Premier is for
- You want a ~$95 travel card with strong everyday 3x categories (dining, groceries, gas) plus transferable points.
- You value American Airlines transfers, or you want a second transferable currency next to Chase or Amex.
- You will book at least one $500+ hotel through Citi Travel each year to use the $100 benefit.
- You travel abroad and want no foreign transaction fees.
Who should skip it
- You already hold or recently held Citi Premier / Strata Premier and are locked out of the bonus.
- You will never book hotels on Citi Travel, so the $100 benefit is worthless to you and the fee stays $95.
- You are still under Chase’s widely reported 5/24 window and have not opened a Sapphire yet. Chase first is usually the better order; see why to start with Chase.
- Your spending is almost all in categories where another card pays more (for example heavy Amex grocery/dining with Gold), and you do not need Citi partners.
How it compares to Sapphire Preferred and Venture X
Brief, not a full head-to-head. Link through to the full reviews for current offers and math.
| Citi Strata Premier | Chase Sapphire Preferred | Capital One Venture X | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annual fee | $95 | $95 | $395 |
| Typical welcome (as on our reviews) | 60,000 pts / $4,000 / 3 mo | 75,000 pts / $5,000 / 3 mo | 75,000 miles / $4,000 / 3 mo |
| Standout earn | 3x dining, groceries, gas; 10x Citi Travel hotels/cars/attractions | 5x Chase Travel; 3x dining, gas, streaming, online grocery | Flat 2x everywhere; 5x/10x Capital One Travel |
| Hotel-style credit | $100 off qualifying Citi Travel hotel | Up to $100 Chase Travel hotel credit | $300 Capital One Travel credit + anniversary miles |
| Transfer edge | Direct to American Airlines | Hyatt (now 4:3), United, Southwest | Broad airline list; no AA or Hyatt |
Pick Strata Premier when American Airlines (or Citi’s Asia partners like EVA and Cathay at 1:1) is the goal and you like grocery/gas 3x. Pick Sapphire Preferred when you are building Chase Ultimate Rewards and still have Sapphire bonus eligibility. Pick Venture X when you will use Capital One Travel enough to offset the higher fee. FAQ
Does the Citi Strata Premier have a foreign transaction fee?
No. Citi’s pricing details list the fee for foreign purchases as none.
Is the $100 hotel benefit automatic?
It applies at booking on a qualifying Citi Travel hotel stay of $500 or more before taxes and fees, once per calendar year. You have to book through Citi Travel and prepay as Citi requires. It is not a statement credit for hotels booked elsewhere.
Can no-annual-fee Citi cards transfer to American Airlines?
ThankYou’s partner list includes AAdvantage for eligible cards, but Citi publishes lower transfer ratios for cards like Double Cash, Custom Cash, and the no-fee Strata. Strata Premier is in the full-ratio group on our chart. Check the ratio in your own ThankYou account before transferring.
How does Strata Premier differ from Strata Elite?
Strata Elite is Citi’s higher-fee Strata card with richer credits and lounge-style benefits. Strata Premier is the $95 mid card focused on earn rates, the $100 hotel benefit, and full-ratio ThankYou transfers. Compare both on Citi’s Strata cards page before you apply.
Bottom line
Bottom Line
The Citi Strata Premier is one of the cleaner $95 travel cards if you will use the $100 Citi Travel hotel benefit and you want ThankYou Points that transfer at full value, especially to American Airlines. The 3x categories on dining, groceries, and gas are easy to use. Skip it if the hotel benefit will go unused or if a Chase Sapphire or Venture X already covers your travel setup.
